Climate Element (In-Progress)

The City of Snoqualmie is developing a Climate Element, a new chapter in the Comprehensive Plan that builds on the 2024 Periodic Update and strengthens the City's approach to climate resilience and greenhouse gas (GHG) reduction.

This effort is in response to new state requirements under Washington’s Growth Management Act (GMA), adopted through HB 1181, which requires cities to plan for climate adaptation, resilience, and emissions reductions as part of their Comprehensive Plans. The project is funded in part by a Climate Commitment Act grant through the Washington State Department of Commerce.

The Climate Element will help Snoqualmie:

  • Prepare for climate-related risks such as extreme heat, flooding, wildfire smoke, and landslides.
  • Protect important community assets such as parks, neighborhoods, businesses, and infrastructure.
  • Reduce greenhouse gas emissions and improve energy efficiency.
  • Look for climate strategies with co-benefits for the community, such as improved air quality, lower energy costs, safer transportation options, and healthier natural spaces.

This work builds on past efforts, including Snoqualmie’s climate protection and energy programs and previously adopted Comprehensive Plan policies related to climate adaptation and sustainability. The new Climate Element will provide updated strategies and focus on resilience, risk reduction, and emissions reductions.
