Community Development
Role & Responsibilities
The Community Development Department implements smart growth principles through sustainable city planning, proactive local and regional administration, and balanced economic development.
The department, comprised of the Planning and Building Divisions, oversees long-range planning and land use management in accordance with the Washington State Growth Management Act and by utilizing the guidance of Snoqualmie's Comprehensive Plan and zoning map.
Additionally, the Community Development Department reviews and processes permits, provides building inspections, code enforcement, and oversees planning and review of development projects within the City.
Leadership
Emily Arteche has more than 25 years of local government planning experience, serving most recently as planning manager for the City of Edgewood, Washington. Prior experience includes senior planner roles with both the City of Sammamish and the City of Issaquah, as well as 4 years as an assistant planner for the City of Hillsboro, Oregon. Arteche holds a master’s degree in urban regional planning from Portland State University and a bachelor’s degree in English (minor in political science) from the University of Oregon.
