Snoqualmie Police Take Unwanted Prescription Drugs

News & Announcements Posted on April 14, 2021

April 24, 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. at the Snoqualmie Fire Station, 37600 SE Snoqualmie Parkway

Snoqualmie, WA – The Snoqualmie Police Department will help residents prevent drug abuse and theft by ridding their homes of potentially dangerous expired, unused, and unwanted prescription drugs during the National Prescription Drug Take Back Day on April 24, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Snoqualmie Fire Station.

The service is free and anonymous, with no questions asked.

Bring pills or patches for disposal; liquids, needles, and sharps cannot be accepted. This is a safe way to dispose of prescription drugs. Flushing drugs down the toilet or in the trash can pose potential safety and health hazards.

According to the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), last spring nearly 492 tons of prescription drugs were turned in at more than 5,800 sites operated by the DEA and almost 4,700 sites from state and local law enforcement partners. In the last 16 Drug Take Back events, the DEA and its partners have taken in almost 5,000 tons of pills.

The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) National Survey on Drug Use and Health shows most misused and abused prescription drugs are obtained from family and friends, including stealing medication from the home medicine cabinet.
