Snoqualmie, WA – U.S. Census data makes a local impact on programs used during the COVID-19 health crisis, including funding for school lunches and emergency preparedness in our community.

For school programs, census results help determine how money is allocated for programs such as Head Start, after-school programs, and free and reduced-price school lunches, such as those shared by the school district during the Stay Home, Stay Safe initiative. Other programs impacted by census data include special education and classroom technology funding.

Data from the 2020 U.S. Census will also influence public safety and emergency preparedness needs. For instance, statistics from census data provide baseline numbers for supply distribution after natural disasters and other emergencies, such as the current pandemic. Data also impact funding for wildlife preparation and rescue coordination.

Most recently, census data have impacted funding of the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act (CARES) Act. The CARES Act makes it possible for the City of Snoqualmie to allocate grants to Snoqualmie businesses and nonprofits in support of local recovery from the impact of COVID-19.

In addition, responding to the U.S. Census online, by phone, or by email lowers the need for the Census Bureau to send census takers out into communities, minimizing health risks.
