City Hall Turns Out the Lights for Earth Hour

Snoqualmie, WA – On Saturday, March 28 from 8:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., the lights at Snoqualmie City Hall will turn off in support of Earth Hour.

Organized by the World Wildlife Fund, this event began in Sydney, Australia in 2007. Over the years, the movement has united hundreds of millions of people, including cities, businesses, landmarks, and universities.

Here’s how you can be involved:

  • Turn off the lights in your home on Saturday, March 28 from 8:30 – 9:30 p.m. local time.
  • Sign up to officially show your support.
  • Stay-at-home activities for all ages focus on protecting the planet. Lights out! Fun on!
  • Tell your story of what nature means to you.
  • Read #CONNECT2EARTH stories to learn what people around the world think about the environment and what they’re doing to contribute to our planet’s health.
  • Watch a video in several languages about this event.
  • Learn about biodiversity on the WWF website.

This is the twelfth year the City of Snoqualmie has participated in Earth Hour to build awareness for global sustainability. Although Snoqualmie participates in this special event each year, all lights in City Hall automatically turn off 365 nights a year to save energy from 10 p.m. until 6 a.m. the next morning. Outside lights remain on for safety.

The City of Snoqualmie has many past and current commitments to protecting and preserving the environment, such as the Urban Forestry Program, the Snoqualmie Preservation Initiative, preservation of Meadowbrook Farm, water resource management, support of solar power, and much more on the city website at www.cityofsnoqualmie.gov under Smart Growth / Environment.
