Snoqualmie marked the start of a new chapter for the community at its January 12, 2026, City Council meeting, as residents were introduced to the City’s new leadership and the Council set its course for the year ahead. During the meeting, Mayor James Mayhew and Councilmember Dan Murphy were sworn in, the Council selected Councilmember Jo Johnson as its new Council leader, Mayor Pro Tem, and committees were reorganized to address the City’s priorities.
For residents, the beginning of a new mayoral term signals a shift in how the City approaches both decision-making and service delivery — from strengthening collaboration with neighboring communities to improving transparency and accountability, maintaining public safety, and managing public resources responsibly.
Mayor Mayhew shared with the Council that his early actions have focused on regional collaboration, including attending a Snoqualmie Tribal Council meeting, participating in a North Bend City Council meeting, and speaking with King County Councilmember Sarah Perry. Reflecting that same spirit of partnership, North Bend Mayor Mary Miller attended the Snoqualmie City Council meeting to thank Mayor Mayhew for his message of collaboration, pledge the same in return, and express optimism for the future.
Mayor Mayhew, who previously served on the Snoqualmie City Council from 2017 to 2023, formally marked the start of his term with a ceremonial oath at Monday’s meeting, following his initial oath of office in November. Councilmember Dan Murphy was also sworn in to serve in Position 1. Murphy brings experience from the Snoqualmie Planning Commission, where he worked on land-use and development issues that directly affect neighborhoods, traffic, and the City’s long-term growth.
In the months ahead, the Mayor and City Council will be considering decisions that shape the City’s services, budget, and quality of life. Residents are encouraged to stay engaged by attending City Council meetings in person or watching online as these discussions move forward.
City Council meetings are held on the second and fourth Monday of each month.
