This Fall, the City of Snoqualmie Stormwater and Urban Forestry Division began a three-phase project that will plant over 300 new street and park trees on public property in downtown Snoqualmie.
This week, crews planted multiple new street trees along Schusman Ave SE near the Mount Si High School stadium. More new trees will be planted on Falls Ave, Alpha, Delta, and Gamma Streets, and Euclid Ave this Fall.
The project ensures that all residents have equitable access to the benefits that trees provide, including stormwater management, improved air quality, and shade in the summer.
Several factors were considered in selecting the species and placement of each tree, including suitability for planting under overhead utility lines, avoiding obstructing views of Mount. Si; compatibility with underground utilities; proven track-record in Snoqualmie; viability with current and future climate scenarios; lack of known or prevalent disease issues; and form and aesthetics with the overall streetscape.
A community meeting was held on September 19, 2024, at Riverview Park for residents on streets where Fall street tree plantings are taking place.
Funds for the downtown tree planting project were provided by the Washington State Department of Natural Resources Urban and Community Forestry Program.
The new trees will be planted this Fall, Spring 2025, and will culminate with a community planting at Centennial Fields for Arbor Day in April 2025.
