On July 24, 2024, the Snoqualmie Police Department, in partnership with the Snoqualmie Fire Department and Eastside Fire & Rescue Station 87, launched the new Safe Rider Citation Program, where local youth will be rewarded with a scoop of ice cream for riding safely and securely strapping on their helmets.
The Safe Rider Citation Program – sponsored by Snoqualmie Ice Cream/ Friends & Co. Ice Cream - is a way for local public safety professionals to say, “Way to be Safe!” when they observe Snoqualmie and North Bend kids making the safe choice to wear a helmet when on the move on their bicycle or scooter.
Snoqualmie Police Dept. officers, Snoqualmie Firefighters, and Eastside Firefighters will begin handing out Safe Rider Citation coupons – good for one free scoop of ice cream at Snoqualmie Ice Cream or Friends & Co. Ice Cream in North Bend – now through August 31, 2024.
“We want to positively reinforce safe choices when our local youth are out and about on their bikes and scooters,” said Snoqualmie Police Chief Brian Lynch. “The program’s goal is to spark conversation and public education about the important role helmets play in preventing unnecessary head injuries.”
Kids are encouraged to ride safely by wearing a helmet with the chin strap securely fastened whenever riding their bikes and scooters – and to watch for police officers who may reward them with a Safe Rider Citation for making that important, safe choice.
