Snoqualmie was recently honored for 10 consecutive years of Tree City USA growth awards, achieving Sterling Community status.
Board Certified Master Arborist Phil Bennett said, “We are proud of our sterling community designation, which means we are attaining and surpassing Tree City USA status. Our urban forest enhances our community with natural beauty, spaces to recreate, and healthy air and clean water for humans, wildlife, and plant life.”
At the April 22 City Council Meeting, Washington State Department of Natural Resources Evergreen Communities Coordinator Julia Kast said: “We look at your community as leaders in urban forestry within in our state and in our country. Know that you’re being watched, you’re being followed, and you’re being used as an example. I hope to see you continue as leaders in urban forestry in the coming years and far into the future.”
About the Tree City USA Designation and Growth Awards
In 2023, Snoqualmie recertified as a Tree City USA for the 14th consecutive year and received its 10th Growth Award. The City gains Tree City USA designation by meeting four standards for running a community forestry program.
The Growth Award is for communities that demonstrate higher levels of tree care and community engagement. Snoqualmie’s 2023 Growth Award was given for staff attaining professional credentials (technician Kyle Markwardt became an ISA Certified Arborist); for completing a pro-active annual tree risk survey; and for generating an annual report for the previous year’s activities.
About Arbor Day in Snoqualmie
