Snoqualmie Police Department Announces Temporary Pause of School Resource Officer Position

Snoqualmie Police Dept. News Releases Posted on August 21, 2024

On August 13, 2024, Snoqualmie Police Chief Brian Lynch notified the Snoqualmie Valley School District that due to staffing constraints within the department, it could not assign an officer to the School Resource Officer (SRO) position effective September 3, 2024.

The Snoqualmie Police Department is actively pursuing staffing allocation solutions and is hopeful that it will resume providing school resource officer services to the Snoqualmie Valley School District during the first quarter of 2025.

In the interim, the Snoqualmie Police Department is committed to having a presence at Mount Si High School, with patrol officers who work during school hours conducting routine, proactive check-ins with staff members and connecting with students. The department will also continue its steadfast commitment to providing law enforcement services to any school within its jurisdiction, as well as providing security at Mount Si High School football games and other special events.

“We understand the importance of having a School Resource Officer on-site to ensure the safety and security of the students, staff, and faculty,” said Snoqualmie Police Chief Lynch. “Rest assured that we are committed to finding a solution to this temporary issue promptly.”

“We strongly support the school resource officer program and recognize the crucial role it plays in maintaining the safety and well-being of our school community,” Snoqualmie Valley School District Superintendent Dan Schlotfeldt said. “We understand the staffing challenges our partners at the Snoqualmie Police Department are facing, and we will continue to work closely with them to ensure our students, staff, and schools remain in a safe and supportive learning environment. We deeply appreciate their support over the years and are committed to restoring this important position as soon as possible.”
